Head Master's Welcome

Head Master Robert CourtBirkdale is a day school for boys aged 4-11 in the Preparatory School and 11-18 in the Senior School, with a coeducational Sixth Form. We are on two sites in leafy west Sheffield.

The Birkdale ethos is based on firm Christian values. These inform every area of school life. Pupils respect each other and have good relationships with their teachers. We endeavour to help pupils acquire a value system which will allow them to live full and fruitful lives.

Standards of teaching and learning are high. Good teachers inspire pupils to enjoy learning and school life generally. Examination results are very good, but exam grades are not all that matters. We want our pupils to be balanced in what they learn and balanced as individuals.

We therefore encourage our pupils to pursue a wide range of interests at school. They acquire important life skills by participating in clubs and societies, representing their Houses, playing sport or music and enjoying outdoor pursuits.

Pastoral care is not an add-on at Birkdale. It is at the heart of what we do as a Christian school. Growing up for our pupils is influenced positively by the care they receive. Commitment, confidence and self-esteem are nurtured.

Enjoy the website, and, if you are considering a Birkdale education for your son or (for the sixth form) daughter, do be in touch with us.
