Birkdale pupils travel back in time!
06 June 2007

As part of their study-visit programme to Cantabria in northern Spain, thirty-eight Y8 and Y9 pupils from Birkdale School had the opportunity to explore the caves at Puente Viesgo and to see cave drawings dating back some 30 000 years. Some of these drawings were of bison and other animals, but the boys had the chance to speculate on the meaning of the 130 red dots which lined the caves.
This visit was just one of many experiences that the group enjoyed during a packed three days. Other highlights included a visit to the historic town of Santillana del Mar and the city of Santander, as well as a visit to a nature reserve.
Linguistic activities included buying of drinks and ice-creams, town trails as well as work on diaries. For relaxation the boys were able to enjoy the beaches and sea in Isla, where the group was based.
