Training Orchestra is born

Music students across Sheffield are celebrating the birth of Sheffield Independent Schools’ Training Orchestra (S.I.S.T.O), a new training orchestra aimed at pupils from Independent Preparatory Schools.
The group was the brain child of Douglas Jones, Birkdale School’s Director of Music. Douglas said; “The aim of the orchestra is to provide an opportunity for musicians to play regularly together and has a close link with the Sheffield Youth Orchestra. Stephen Vickers, conductor of Sheffield Youth Orchestra kindly agreed to conduct the new orchestra.”
With 18 current members aged between 7 and 13 years, the orchestra goes from strength to strength. New members are welcome from any Sheffield Independent School or musicians who are educated privately. If you would like to join S.I.S.T.O or receive further information, please email Douglas Jones
