Birkdale School have won the Royal Chemical Society Schools Analyst Competition – North Division. The competition took place at Sheffield Hallam University where 10 teams from all over the North competed.
The team of lower sixth pupils conducted an analysis of aspirin and vitamin C samples using titration, UV spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography techniques.
The team now go forward to the national finals, which take place at the University of East Anglia on 18/19 June.
