Aidan Smith at Birkdale School, Sheffield, has become the Orienteering National Champion for Year 8’s.
The British Schools Score Orienteering Championships were held on Saturday 6 October in the grounds of Petworth Park in Sussex.
Score orienteering is an exciting adventure sport where competitors have a fixed amount of time to visit as many controls as possible. Pupils from Year 5 - Year 9 ran for 45 minutes and in that time Aidan collected 270 points out of a possible 300 to win the individual Year 8 boys' class by 50 points.
Aidan is a member of local club South Yorkshire Orienteers.
