Birkdale wins the SENTA/SHEFFIELD University Enterprise Challenge
19 November 2007

As part of National Enterprise Week which aimed to develop young entrepreneurs across the country, an all day event took place at the Kroto Research Institute, Sheffield University.

24 Sheffield based schools were invited to compete in an Y10 and Y11 computerised virtual business start-up game called SimVenture. The goal at the end of the day was to make the most profit starting up a computer business. Birkdale School team included Richard Achahboun, Richard Parry, John Hartley, Mark Maher, John Money-Taylor and Joe Kang, and together they were able to make £146,000 profit, placing them first against the second and third teams at £86,000 and £36,000. The team collected £250.00 in Meadowhall gift vouchers, two trophies, gold coloured #1 medals and a chance to have a turn in the University’s flight simulator to be held during the afternoon November 30, 2007.

This is a great result for the school’s new Enterprise Club and it is just one of the four challenges they have entered into so far.
