Teaching Chinese at Birkdale

Birkdale School is now offering Mandarin Chinese lessons to their students. An exciting new taster course has just started for pupils aged 15-18, consisting of ten sessions this Christmas term, with certification at the end.

The course is linked with the Confucius Institute in Sheffield which aims to promote a better understanding of Chinese language and culture in Sheffield and beyond and also to promote the teaching of Chinese language in UK Secondary Schools.

Dr Sarah Dauncey, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Sheffield said;
“The Confucius Institute is very excited about working with Birkdale School. We hope that this first step will encourage more pupils to take up the challenge of learning Mandarin Chinese and enable them to engage with one of the most dynamic countries in the world today.”
