Prep School Sports Days

Both the Prep and Pre-Prep Sports Days took place at the HSBC Sports Ground last week with all of the boys competing for points towards the Sports Day Trophy, House Sports Cup and the overall House Trophy.

The Pre-Prep event saw the boys in twelve 'animal' teams complete a circuit of activities including an obstacle course, accuracy throw, football dribble and hurdles. The boys performed superbly in the sunshine, racking up the points and when all was said and done it was Mrs Chung's 'Dogs' that took the team award whilst Martin House won the House Trophy.

The Thursday afternoon weather was less kind for the Prep boys as, despite being dry, they had to contend with very cold temperatures. Again the boys were split into twelve groups but this time they took part in eight athletics events with a points system based on the UK Athletics guidelines. Events included 55m Hurdles, Shot Putt, Javelin, 50m Sprint, Cricket Ball Throw, Long Jump, Triple Jump and 400m. Not only were the boys competing for their House but also for individual glory within their year group.

Some fantastic performances saw Isaac Firth (P1 - Hurdles), Will Boardman (P1 - Shot Putt), Ewan Gillott (P2 - Hurdles) and Andrew Charlish (P3 - Hurdles) set new year group records while Charlish also managed to break the overall school record for the 50m Sprint - an incredible achievement for a Prep 3.

The House competition was won by Roberts House, defending the title they won last year, while the four year group Victor Ludorums were won by Max Dunn (P1), Silvio Allegrini (P2), Nathaniel Morrison (P3) and Ross Luke (P4) all narrowly holding off fierce competition from rivals.

The afternoon was a great success, showcasing both individual and team achievement and the boys were as fantastic in their efforts as ever. Many thanks to HSBC for hosting two more superb afternoons.
