General Knowledge Quiz Victory

Following our Science Quiz Team's success by reaching the National Final, the General Knowledge Team attempted to follow suit by winning their local heat for the fourth year in a row.

Hosted at Ashdell, the two Birkdale teams performed brilliantly, finishing first and second out of the 12 teams present, beating off competition from the hosts, Sheffield High, St Anselm's, Ranby House and Derby High.

Birkdale Team 1 led the contest from the very first question until, agonisingly, Team 2 overtook them on the 39th of the 40 questions (Where in your body would you find the ulna?). With the final question (How many kilometres above the Earth does the ISS orbit?) managing to stump everyone, Birkdale 2 took the title by just 15 points and progressed to the National Semi-Final.

Credit must go to both teams who showed off some truly mindblowing general knowledge throughout. Good luck to Team 2 in the semi-final!

Team 1 - Leo Kyeremateng, Alexander Muir, Jacob Jordan, Matthew Morris
Team 2 - Ryan Faraj, Duncan MacColl, Simon Peng, Patrick Owen
