On 24th March, 7 Birkdale sixth formers studying Business and Language took part in the Challenge of China day co-organised by the Confucius Institute and the University of Nottingham.
The day began with a key-note speech on 'The Challenge of China' by Dr Sarah Dauncey, Associate Professor of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham. Students participated in a series of workshops including an introduction to mandarin, etiquette, geography and calligraphy which gave an insight into Chinese language and culture.
The day culminated in a trading session with students pitching products they had designed for the Chinese teenage market. Birkdale students excelled, with Verity Parker and Toby Williams winning individual prizes for their performances. Our students also played a key role in winning the overall business sales award – conducted partially in Mandarin!
