Classics Department London Trip

On Thursday 1 October a party of students from S5 (Y11) to Upper 6th (Y13) visited London to gain an extra perspective on their studies of Classical Civilisation, Ancient Greek and Latin.
The first stop was at the British Museum, where they were treated to a guided tour of the Greek galleries, giving them close-up views of artworks they have been studying. After lunch and a riverside walk in brilliant sunshine, they arrived at the Globe Theatre for a unique performance of three Ancient Greek tragedies by Aeschylus.
Being so close to the harrowing action gave our students a unique insight into the practicalities of staging this complex literature. Thankfully there was a surprisingly up-beat ending to the trilogy of plays as the cast sang and danced their way off stage in a ritual procession of thanks.
