Mock Interviews Strengthen Sixth Form University Applications

Once again this year the Birkdale Sixth Form has held a series of 'mock' interviews in the week commencing 9 November, led by our experienced academic and pastoral tutors.
The purpose of these interviews is to help candidates refine and develop their interview skills and techniques. They are also of course particularly helpful for Oxbridge candidates and those applying for highly competitive courses such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.
In addition to traditional structured interviews for each candidate across all subjects, a series of multiple mini interviews were scheduled for those pupils applying for Medicine to mirror this new development in medical admissions. Over the course of the mini interviews each candidate circulated round five stations where they were interviewed on a range of issues including ethics, NHS in the news, work experience and data interpretation and discussion.
Helen Parsons, Head of Birkdale Sixth Form commented: "We have a comprehensive programme here at Birkdale to make sure our sixth form pupils are fully prepared to perform at their best. University applications - particularly highly competitive courses like medicine - have large numbers of pupils from across the country going for often limited places. By particularly focusing on the development of 'soft' interview skills we aim through practice to help pupils achieve in interview to their very highest ability".
Our Sixth Form Open Evening takes place next Tuesday 17 November 6.45pm. All welcome.
