THE ROMANS WERE HERE!

On Friday 20 November, 15 Latin students from S4 and S5 travelled to Doncaster as part of their preparation for their GCSE module Roman Britain.

In the morning they had a talk on the role of Doncaster (ancient Danum) and the South Yorkshire region during the Roman occupation of Britain. There was a handling session which allowed them to examine artefacts excavated in the Doncaster area. This provided in depth insights into the lives of people of the time. Some intrepid members of the group allowed themselves to be kitted out in replica Roman military gear. The body armour and weapons were surprisingly heavy! In the afternoon they visited the museum gallery itself, studying the Roman objects on display.
