Following the winning of the local heat of the Schools' Analyst Competition held at The University of Sheffield, three L6 (Y12) Chemistry students Yustina George, Georgia Oldfield and Youssef Farag, accompanied by their Chemistry teacher Dr AbouZeid, went on to participate in the national final of the competition.
Twenty local winners from all over the UK took part in the competition held at Keele University on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 June. Organised by The Royal Society of Chemistry, the students had to perform three analytical experiments using UV-VIS spectrophotometry, SPE and HPLC and answer a variety of demanding questions.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the stimulating and challenging chemistry environment and they found the whole experience quite interesting and rewarding.
