We have heard the sad news that Cat died suddenly at her home in Spain on Wednesday 29 June, apparently due to an asthma attack.
Cat was a talented musician and a brilliant teacher. Her quietly sensitive, friendly, caring, encouraging and thorough approach had a profound impact on all her pupils and colleagues. In addition to teaching at Birkdale she also conducted local Youth Orchestras and gave numerous recitals both as a soloist and as a member of a quartet.
She left us in 1995 to concentrate on her performing, for which she was becoming increasingly well known. She was also a keen advocate of Alexander Technique which helps musicians to improve their posture and wellbeing and so enhance their performing style while at the same time avoiding strain or injury.
In 2002 Cat moved to Andalucia in Spain where she founded The Alexander Music School in order to offer tuition as well as being a venue for concerts. This establishment rapidly became a focus for musical performance in the region and remains so today.
Cat will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
