Oxbridge success is built on more than academic results, as shown by several Birkdale students who have taken advantage of the many fantastic academic and extracurricular opportunities available to them.
Max Doody, who has been offered a place at Oriel College, Oxford to study Medicine, travelled to Lithuania with the European Youth Parliament just before Christmas. This follows on from his success in the national EYP finals which took place in September 2016.
Yanhao Wang has had some amazing experiences, including a physics masterclass at the University of Cambridge. Not only did his abilities flourish under its guidance, but his dedication in completing questions also earned him a place on the Senior Physics Challenge, a course in quantum mechanics organised by the University of Cambridge which only forty Year 12 students from across the country are invited to attend. He was later accepted into the Oxford and Cambridge Summer School. Work experience at the EPSRC National Centre for III-V Technologies opened a window to the experimental aspect of physics. Yanhao, unsurprisingly has secured a place at Magdalene College, Cambridge to study Natural Sciences (Physical).
Daiwei Lang has been teaching and running Maths club for S1 at Birkdale as part of his gap year since completing his A levels last year. He has also embarked on studying for some Additional Further Maths modules, just to keep in touch with the world of academia. Daiwei has been offered a place at Queens’ College, Cambridge to study Mathematics.
