Birkdale and Ashdell perform Pirates of Penzance
04/07/2008

one of the opening scenes

Birkdale & Ashdell Schools have combined their musical and acting talents to present 'The Pirates of Penzance'.

The famous operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan was performed brilliantly by boys and girls aged 10 and 11. It is a hilarious tale of love and camaraderie, set on the coast of Cornwall at the time of Queen Victoria’s reign. The costumes, music and lighting really captured the mood of the time.

The cast rehearsed for many months with notable performances by Sam Oliver (Frederick) whose comic timing was impeccable. His love interest in the play was Mabel played by Holly Green of Ashdell, who sang beautifully. Prep 4 boys also had the opportunity of waltzing with the girls, to the delight of the audience.
