Inspirational talk by Antarctic Explorer
28/04/2009

Andrew Ledger

24 year old Andrew Ledger, from Sheffield, who was a member of the Shackleton Expedition to the South Pole earlier this year, gave a fascinating lecture recently to the upper sixth at Birkdale, about his experiences and the personal challenges he faced in the southern hemisphere.

He brought a range of equipment to assist his explanation of the clothing requirements, along with details of the need to consume 9000 calories a day to survive in the extreme cold conditions.

His next challenge is to cycle across America from East Coast to West Coast. He is thinking of a career in the Armed Forces - possibly the Marines or the Para’s or even the Special Armed Services. Clearly a young man with a lot of character to offer!
