pupil with one of the french actors

The Onatti Theatre Company visited Birkdale School for the first time on Friday 22nd May to perform a play completely in French to Y7 and Y8 pupils.

Throughout the performance, pupils were involved in a variety of ways to bring to life the story of Françoise and Etienne when they meet in a derelict barn, after Françoise is bullied at school and Etienne is chased away by members of a rival gang when he ends up on their turf by accident.

With the pupils’ help, Françoise made the barn homely and helped to patch up Etienne and make him ready for a final showdown, not with the rival gang leader as expected, but with his girlfriend, Hélène! Pupils even turned their hand to matchmaking, helping to bring the two protagonists closer together.

Mrs. Ryan, who organised the visit, said “Birkdale pupils have been treated to an excellent performance. The level of the French was just right, there were many comic moments and there were opportunities for everyone to get involved!”
