Having arrived safely in Santander at their hotel situated on the beach overlooking the sea in the resort of Isla, northern Spain, members of S2 and S3 visited the medieval village of Santillana del mar. This has been preserved over the centuries because the sea retreated abandoning the village. There a visit to the torture museum provoked some very thoughtful conversations amongst the students.
The next day the group completed a town trail which finished in a chocolateria with tasty chocolate con churros. This was followed by the prehistoric caves at Puente Viesgo, where in small groups they were able to see the famous cave paintings.
Further excursions included the fabulous Cabarceno wildlife park including the Brown bears being fed and a visit to the caves under the hotel which have been adapted for the lobsters and crabs which the hotel is famous for serving,
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the trip and gained valuable experience of a different culture and language at the same time.
