Lower Sixth Visit the Houses of Parliament and Bank of England
30/06/2009

At the early time of 6.30 am a group of 18 Government & Politics, Economics and Business Studies students assembled at Sheffield train station ready for a day in London.

All were impressed by the slick security check experienced before entering the Houses of Parliament which included an ‘on the spot’ snapshot of each person to attach to their identity card. Following a tour of Parliament, we met with Nick Clegg (Sheffield Hallam MP and Lib/Dem leader) for an interesting and informative Question and Answer session.

Following lunch in Green Park and a walk down to Buckingham Palace the group boarded a very hot and sticky underground train bound for the Bank of England. Everyone had a go at lifting the ‘gold bar’ in the Bank’s museum and enjoyed a stimulating presentation dealing with today’s pressing economic issues.

A meal in Leicester Square rounded off the day and we returned home to news of a landmark day at Wimbledon and victory for Britain’s Andy Murray.
