‘The Ancestors’ is a theatrical hit at Prep school
This year’s Prep School show “The Ancestors” was written and directed by Catherine Carter Shepherd, Curriculum course leader in drama.
The play opened with a scene in which six generations of an aristocratic family commission six famous artists to pain their portraits. The play moves through time to World War 2 where the original masterpieces are hidden in a secret room in the mansion and forgeries are substituted in their place. The close to act I sees a bomb drop on the mansion, and the secret of the hidden oil paintings remains undiscovered. Act 2 opens in the present day with the mansion being used as a film set. The film stars unwittingly come across the secret room and the paintings are revealed.
The cast of P3 and P4 boys worked extremely well to present an entertaining comedy. Back stage on the first night the boys were nervous yet thrilled and watching their confidence saw during the three nights is a testimony the fantastic support and preparation of the staff involved.
A special mention should go Rowan Gaster Robinson and Henry Siddal who jointly won this year’s Drama Prize. Congratulations to everyone who made the play a success.
