The Nepa-10 expedition departed this week on its annual trip. The group is the largest ever taken by Birkdale, 68 in all, with a mixture of adults and pupils from two schools - Birkdale School and Bournemouth Collegiate School. Bournemouth Collegiate is led by a former member of staff from Birkdale. Most of the adults are from St Andrew's Community Church in Dronfield.
It is hoped that a great deal of community work will be achieved this year. Teaching will take place within the many schools that Birkdale has forged links within Kathmandu in recent years, including a leprosy colony. Typically the visiting pupils teach the Nepalese a range of prepared topics, taking all resources with them. Financial support will also be donated to several projects.
Birkdale School is also delighted that it has been able to recently finance the building of a science laboratory at the Peace Garden School in Khokana, Kathmandu and presently John Allen, a biology teacher is working in the school, whilst on sabbatical from Birkdale, helping to set the facility up and to train the teachers of the school in its use.
A small group from the church will also be travelling out to the mountains to Jiri to offer spiritual and financial help to some of the growing churches in the area.
