Congratulations to Sixth Former Chris Meiring who has been chosen to represent Great Britain in Korea next July in the International Biology Olympiad 2010.
The national competition regularly attracts about 1500 entrants and is open to all schools with sixth forms doing A Level Biology. The aim of the competition is to challenge and stimulate gifted students with an interest in Biology to expand and extend their talents. The pupils have to sit very hard papers and only the best twelve go through to the next round.
The second round of the British Biology Olympiad was attended by all those who were awarded a gold medal (40), and from these only 12 were chosen for the third round. Birkdale were lucky enough to have two of these twelve places (Sam Bostock in U6 and Chris). Both took part in three gruelling days at Birmingham University during the Easter holidays where they were engaged in difficult and testing practicals and theory assessments.
Chris is one of four selected finalists that have now been chosen from Britain to spend a week in Korea to compete internationally against similar pupils from across the world. Well done Chris!
