On Wednesday 21st May, all of Birkdale Prep 4 went on an Art trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The weather was on our side, as drawing on wet paper would have been interesting! First stop was Barbara Hepworth’s ‘Family of Man’, a field full of a family of abstract sculptures. The boys interacted with the sculptures and looked through the ‘holes’ to frame each other and the views through. Many photos were taken, and some fantastic drawings were produced. Boys got into the idea that each sculpture represented a family member.
Next, a tour through the ‘Sculpture Access Trail’, and through the woods to see what sculptures they could find. They loved the majestic Totem Pole, as it looked like an ancient tribal monument. They also loved the stone houses built by artists as though they were abandoned many years before by some mysterious folk.
There was an interactive sound sculpture where the boys had to figure out which places triggered which sounds to play a field of huge rabbits with hidden, secret treasures imbedded in them and a very funny bridge!
A fantastic day was had by all.
