Drama

In terms of educational drama our aim is to produce self-confident pupils who are able to communicate effectively and to demonstrate a range of interpersonal skills and life-skills; to become intelligent and considerate people able to lead and to be part of a team.

Drama is taught practically throughout the school and has particular strength in the sixth form and with the 'A' level Theatre Studies course
Students are encouraged to mount their own productions alongside those fronted by the Drama department.

GCSE Drama was introduced in 2006 and is proving to be a popular subject choice.

GCSE Drama.

'The Student's Questions.'

Act One, Scene One.

Narrator : All the world's a stage.

Student: But I don't want to be an actor, so why take Drama?

Narrator: Because Drama will help you to present yourself confidently and with maturity whether you are on the stage, or in a courtroom, or the boardroom.

Student: How can Drama do this?

Narrator: By providing a course which, through theatrical techniques such as role-play, improvisation and script-writing, enables you to develop your social and communication skills. Of course there are also technical skills to acquire, such as lighting, stage management and set design

Student: How is the course tested?

Narrator: There is no written exam. Your coursework builds up over the second year, with your teacher keeping records and results of your work. You develop at your own pace, gaining more understanding and insight as you progress. You will also take part in theatre visits, workshops and performances.

Student: Sounds great! How do I get started?

Narrator: See your Drama teacher for further details.

Lights out.

Curtain.
