History/ Government & Politics

The History Department exists for the promotion of History and Politics in the school. History is taught through the whole school age range and is examined externally at G.C.S.E., A Level and A.E.A. whilst Government and Politics is taught in the Sixth Form and is examined externally at A Level. History is a compulsory subject up to G.C.S.E. Both subjects are popular options and the qualifications gained are highly regarded.

What is Taught in History

Key Stage 3 [S1 to S3 – NC Years 7 to 9]
A thousand years of British History from 1066 to modern times as well as studying Native Americans, the French Revolution and the Second World War.

G.C.S.E. [S4 to S5 – NC Years 10 to 11]
Twentieth Century History including: World War 1, Hitler, Stalin, the Cold War and the role of Women.

A Level [Sixth Form – NC Years 12 to13]
Britain from 1483 to 1583 and aspects of Europe from1789 to 1871.

What is Taught in Government and Politics

A Level [Sixth Form – NC Years 12 to 13]
Modern political issues in Britain, the European Union and the U.S.A.
