Learning Support

The Learning Support Department at Birkdale School is organised on a one to one withdrawal system. Pupils are screened in their first term to identify need, so that appropriate support can be offered.

Support is tailored to an individual's needs and is reviewed regularly. Although the main focus is on literacy skills, study and revision skills become increasingly important as a pupil moves through school. Personal skills, such as organisation, are reinforced at all stages, and particular emphasis is placed on developing and maintaining the positive self image of the pupil.
