Congratulations go to five L6 students: William Gray; Louis Thomas; Sushain Razdan; Omar Sorour and Aryan Akhgar who have secured the sought-after Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. Birkdale have a record of accomplishment in achieving Arkwright scholars, but this year is a school record!
The Scholarship supports 16 to 18 year old students during the final two years of their school studies. The Scholarships are awarded to only the highest potential students across the country who show promise to be future leaders in the Engineering Profession.
They were selected from over 1400 applicants following a rigorous selection process comprising a detailed application form, a teacher’s reference, a two-hour engineering aptitude exam and interview. Recipients have gone on to become CEOs of their own companies, industry Directors and leading academics.
During their sixth-form studies, Scholars receive £600 to support their endeavours to widen their knowledge of engineering and to fund their technical projects at school. Scholars are also provided with exciting and exclusive opportunities to learn more about engineering, such as mentoring and company visits. Schools receive £400 per Scholarship awarded to their students that helps to strengthen the teaching of math’s, sciences and design/technologies at the school.
Mr Offer, Head of Design & Technology said, “The Arkwright Engineering Scholarships are a tremendous accolade and the first step to achieving a position within the UK engineering profession. They all should be extremely proud of their achievements.”
