On Monday 10th December a few keen programmers from S3, S5 and L6 took part in the annual British Informatics Olympiad. This is a three hour individual assessment in which students try to solve some very challenging puzzles by writing efficient code in a programming language of their choice. Those who do well may be invited to join the British team for the International Olympiad.  Two of the students who submitted valid solutions were Alex Pilakoutas and Matthew Morris who have also been honing their coding skills on code-cracking this term. The pair have helped take Birkdale into the final round of the Southampton University Cipher Challenge in joint first place. We wish the team (including some S2 and S4 students) the best of luck for the final round which opens on Thursday 13th December.
