As the academic year draws to a close we had the opportunity to come together as a school community for our annual Celebration and Prizegiving this week. Pupils, parents and friends celebrated all that is good about Birkdale. Everyone received a warm welcome as our Jazz Band entertained on arrival at the Octagon Centre.

First, our Chair of Governors, Mr Paul Houghton spoke about our three core values of Academic Ambition, Well-Rounded Education and Christian Ethos. He spoke of welcoming diversity of religion and belief and how Birkdale develop men and women who will become the leaders of tomorrow. Mr Harris then spoke of embracing change and how we must continually evolve and grow to improve who or what we are.

Many pupils were awarded prizes for academic achievement, the arts, sport and music highlighting the many opportunities available at Birkdale. We were entertained by Lower School Drama and also our amazing Big Band.

Our academic departments showcased some of the trips we have undertaken this year including Germany, France, Spain and China. Our aspiring medics shared with us the benefits of our Medical Society where they are inspired by visiting medical professionals who come to speak about careers in medicine. A group of 6th Form students spoke of their experience at EYP – the European Youth Parliament. Our sportsmen celebrated the core values of rugby such as sportsmanship and respect – values which permeate Birkdale.

Last but not least, the House Cup was awarded to Heeley! It was a fantastic evening and the perfect way to conclude what has been a busy and exciting year.
