Congratulations to last year’s U12 cricket team, who won the Yorkshire Cup on Tuesday 10th September against Prince Henry’s, Otley at New Rover CC in Leeds.

Having won the toss, Birkdale asked Prince Henry’s to bat first. A tremendous all round bowling display meant Birkdale were always in control and were able to restrict Prince Henry’s to 86 all out. Leading the way with the ball were Issac Firth (4-18) and Josh Gilgrass (3-13).

Despite a low total, openers Ed Burch (c) and Ffinlo Dyde had to battle hard early on against some quick and aggressive fast bowling. After weathering the storm, runs started to flow and they were able to take the game away from the opposition. Despite losing captain Burch for a well crafted 34, Dyde (36*) and Gilgrass (3*) were able to see the Birkdale side home in the 16th over with the loss of only one wicket.

This is now the second time in 5 years that Birkdale have won this trophy and a tremendous achievement for the team who were able to carry on their successful season from last summer. They will now go on to represent Yorkshire in the National rounds of the competition that start in April.
