Birkdale’s A level Classical Civilisation group took the opportunity to see the new exhibition that has opened at the British Museum, Troy: Myth and Reality. It is an excellent exhibition which looks at all types of artefacts which tell the story of Troy, the Odyssey and the Aeneid, all of which are texts to be studied for the A level qualification.

In addition there are exhibits which show the influence these stories have had on popular culture and other arts. The new version of Achilles’ shield was stunning.

After the exhibition the group examined the Parthenon marbles and some of the other statues in the museum. Greek Art is another of the A level modules. It proved to be a very worthwhile study day.
