Fifteen Upper and Lower Sixth English Language students travelled to Manchester for a day of intensive analysis and exploration of Shakespeare’s domestic tragedy Othello. An erudite and informative discourse exploring a feminist critical approach to the play, was followed by an equally excellent talk on dramatic context by Janice Ashman.
A quick break allowed everyone to powder their noses, before they were treated to Kate Ash Irissari’s scintillating look at ‘storytelling and Jacobean drama’. The day was capped by erstwhile compere Andy Haley’s close analysis of some of Othello’s key scenes, giving the students (and teachers!) a vital opportunity to make notes and enhance their knowledge of key aspects of the text.
