Pupils and parents braved the cold weather and sleet to attend the Music Department Spring Solos Concert last night. This featured 15 brilliant performers from S1 through to the 6th form playing on a wide variety of instruments and in many different styles. The evening opened with Christian and James performing St James’s Infirmary on the piano and trumpet which showcased their excellent jazz improvisation skills. Later, James also performed River Flows in You. Sam and Seth treated us to two contrasting Chopin preludes on the piano. Isaac, Sam and Chris delighted the audience with performances on the clarinet of pieces they are preparing for their forthcoming music exams. Simon and Nayan performed Elgar and Bach on the violin. Abdullah made his debut performance on the flute with a Hungarian Serenade. Declan and Isabella (a.k.a Jean Valjean and Eponine in our forthcoming Les Mis production) performed songs from the musicals Into the Woods and Parade. Lucas played Bouree by Handel on the double bass and Marcus played an extended version of Blues in the Attic on the piano. The night concluded with a performance by Jacob on the saxophone entitled Dreams of You by McGarry.
