A team of eight sixth-form students took part in ‘SHUniversity Challenge’ at Sheffield Hallam University this week. This brand new quiz competition was organised as part of the events for national science week 2020. They competed against schools from across the region in a series of rounds throughout the day covering maths, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, environmental science and computing. Our team managed to battle their way through to the grand final, where in a tightly contested matchup against a strong team from Brookfield School (Chesterfield), they eventually prevailed by a score of 9 points to 7 to become the first ever champions of SHUniversity Challenge. Huge congratulations to the team – Joanna, Will, Jamie, Alex, Bhavesh, Finlay, Dom and Roo.
In addition to this, on Wedensday 11 March teachers from the science department and eight sixth-form scientists visited Tinsley Meadows Primary School to deliver a carousel of science activities to pupils aged 5-9. These included chromatography, milk suspensions, circuits and density experiments. All hands on activities which were thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.
