Congratulations to U6 student and 1st XV Captain, Phoenix, who made his professional debut for Keighley Cougars RL v Bradford Bulls in a pre-season game last Saturday (13th).

This is a tremendous achievement for Phoenix, who at 17, has been awarded a one-year contract with the Cougars, before switching codes and begin pre-season training with Leicester Tigers Academy in July. Despite not having played any rugby this year due to coronavirus, Phoenix has worked hard on his individual fitness and skill set in order to stay in shape and be ready for the demands of professional rugby.

His debut was made even more special when he took to the field with his father, ex-Sheffield Eagles legend and Samoan RL international, Quentin Laulu-Togagae or “QLT”.

Mr Byron, Director of Rugby, commented “Phoenix has always been a very committed and driven athlete, I couldn’t be more impressed with the individual work he has done during lock down. He’s understanding of both union and league will help him go far.”

As well as being 1st XV Captain, Phoenix is also a Sports Scholar whilst studying Maths, Economics and English Literature for his A-levels.
