Upper Sixth leavers’ day is always an important day in the Birkdale calendar. As we marked this year’s Upper Sixth last day at school, there was a great sense of emotion after what has been a very difficult year with Covid lockdowns, social distancing and self-isolation. Three key words sum up this incredible group of young people: Resilient; Compassionate and Respectful – all core Birkdale School values.
Their day began with the usual distribution of Leavers’ hoodies and Yearbooks, followed by a special assembly led by Head Master, Mr Harris. He spoke of the skills they have developed during their time at Birkdale and the exciting new opportunities that lay ahead. He urged them to always remember that we all have one thing in common – and that is Birkdale.
Birkdale provides shared memories and great friendships. For some that has been a 14 year school career (“lifers” as we call them), who started their education journey in the Prep School. For others who joined either at S1 (Y7) or Sixth Form, they have also forged amazing friendships and created shared memories. Memories of school productions, sports fixtures, trips and inspirational teachers to name but a few.
Mr Harris concluded with a quote: “Be wise enough not to be reckless but brave enough to take great risks”.
We are delighted that our Upper Sixth have learned the skills to become the best versions of themselves and we wish them every success for the future.
