An intrepid group of S3 (Y9) pupils set off from school on Monday to begin a 24 hour expedition as part of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh training.

Following a 6 hour walk to Hathersage, they set up camp at the North Lees campsite where they pitched their tents and cooked their evening meal. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse and the pupils experienced a torrential downpour overnight!

Undeterred by the conditions, they displayed great resilience and got up the next day ready for another walk, this time to Stanage. En route there was a carousel of 8 different activities to participate in including: a silent disco; mindfulness; art; geology and poetry. They all threw themselves into the activities and had a fantastic time.

Birkdale believes outdoor pursuits allows us to challenge our pupils and develop classic team bonding and independent perseverance skills, whilst providing the opportunity for our pupils to try something new and exciting. This was definitley the case. Well done to all who took part!
