- About Us
For admission to S1 (Y7) at Birkdale Senior School, your son will firstly need to be registered as a prospective pupil. Entry to the Senior School is academically selective and all applicants are required to sit our 11+ Entrance Test when they are in Y6. A Registration Form should be completed and submitted with a photocopy of your son’s birth certificate. A £50 registration fee is payable and details of how to pay can be found on the form. The closing date for registering to sit the main 11+ Entrance Test to join S1 (Y7) in September 2022 is Friday 3 December 2021.

The 11+ Entrance Test for admission to Birkdale Senior School in September 2022 will be held on Wednesday 12 January 2022. For entry in 2022 and beyond we will be using the Common Pre-Tests, which are online, adaptive tests provided by the Independent Schools Examination Board (ISEB).
The tests are in a multiple-choice format and take approximately two-and-a-half hours in total to complete. We will run the tests at Birkdale over the course of the day, interspersed with breaks and other activities. Further information about the tests can be found on the ISEB website https://www.iseb.co.uk/Parents/Common-Pre-Tests
The outcome of the 11+ Entrance Test will be initially communicated to parents by email by Friday 21 January 2022. This will be followed by a letter which will be sent shortly after the February half term holiday, when the formal offer of a place at Birkdale will be made to all those who have met the academic standard for entry.
Late registrations received after the 11+ Entrance Test will be placed on a waiting list and will be invited to be assessed for entry if places are still available once the original deadline (in March 2022) for acceptance of places offered has passed. It is not possible for pupils registered late to be considered for any of the 11+ Scholarships and consideration for means-tested bursary funding is unlikely to be possible.
