Introduction to Pre-Prep

Birkdale Pre-Prep builds the foundations for later success. It is a happy and friendly department, catering for boys and girls aged 4+ to 6+, where each child is encouraged to play a full part in the life of the school.

It is a positive learning environment, based on praise and rewards. Working within a structured framework we encourage the very youngest children to move confidently from home to formal teaching. From the earliest years they begin to experience specialised teaching as well as more creative based activities.

Our balanced teaching and learning programme is based on – and exceeds – that of the national curriculum and covers all aspects of a child’s development.

In addition to experienced and well qualified teachers, each class is supported by teaching assistants. Regular assessment helps to monitor each child’s progress, informing future teaching.

We very much believe that education is a partnership between school and home. We recognise and encourage the central role that parents play in their child’s learning and development. There are regular reports and parent consultation opportunities throughout the year.

We aim to develop children as learners and independent thinkers, encouraging them to work, play and co-operate with others.

We encourage you to come and experience for yourself the stimulating atmosphere that exists in the Pre-Prep classes, to see our pupils at work and at play, as well as to talk to our caring and friendly staff. Do visit, either on one of our Open Days or arrange a personal tour of the school at a time to suit you, to see what we can offer your son or daughter on their first steps into education.
