Drama Clubs

Drama Clubs are at lunch-time and are offered to most years in the school. In Drama Club the boys explore various theatrical techniques, and focus on devising as well as scripting performances.

The sessions are fast, furious and most of all fun. Drama Club offers a space to not only learn about the art of acting but develop socially and artistically. Lower School sessions are run by Sixth Form students who have a passion for drama and a flair for directing and guiding students into success. Material includes improvisation topics and script-work, which is sometimes taken to performance level.

Public Performances

Large school performances occur twice a year, creating a busy buzz around the Drama department. Every other year Drama joins forces with the Music department to put on an all singing all dancing musical of choice. Recent productions include: Bouncers, Sweeney Todd, A Christmas Carol, Guys and Dolls, Little Shop of Horrors, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The History Boys and Lord of the Flies – to name but a few.

Other evening performances take place in one of the two drama studios which are fully equipped with sound, lighting and digital projection technology. The studio spaces offer an intimate setting which is perfect for small performances.

There are also lots of technical and stage management jobs available during productions, so there is no excuse for students not to be involved during their time at Birkdale.
